In my few years on earth, I've seen God raising men from nothing to something; from nowhere to somewhere, from lowest deep to the mountain top. He specializes in transforming men of nothing to men of means; feeble to strong; coward to valiant; ordinary to extraordinary. He has been in this business since the beginning of the earth and yet not tired till he has fulfills his desires on the earth. You may want to check some men like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Daniel, to mention a few among the ‘old soldiers’. How God took them through and brought them from poverty to riches; from prison to palace; from wilderness to fertile ground; from slavery to mastery and from exile to excellence. The Bible says that these men by faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions (Heb 11:33). In the New Testament, Jesus himself did not look for men that were noble, educated or popular but despised men, outcast women; who through faith did made the gospel spread around the world. In Acts 4:13, the Bible reveals that 'these men were unlearned and ignorant men...' but their boldness and eloquence showed that they had been with Jesus. As I said, God is still in this business of making people great. He took Isaac from nowhere and made him great till he became exceedingly great (Gen 26:13).
What often comes to my mind is what made these people choice servants of God in their generation. I found out that they had something in them that God was using to lift them. Abraham was a man of faith and a friend of God (James 2:23); Moses was a meek man (Num 12:3); David was a man after God's heart (Acts 13:22); Daniel had an excellent spirit (Dan 6:3). I have found that in all these men, there existed something which did not only make them useful to God but enable them to make impact in their generation. I discovered that these men waxed great until they became exceedingly great. Brethren, I am persuaded that these men have got something in common or perhaps differently which we have to seek so that we can rise and keep rising in life.
Of interest however is Daniel, a man who began his life as a captive in Babylon. He was carried among the captives by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon (Dan 1:1). Imagine a young boy being a captive in a strange land. Definitely, he started his career in life as a slave but obviously did not end as a slave. Daniel rose from just an ordinary slave boy to the No. 3 man in the entire kingdom (Dan 5:29) and then he became one of the Presidents (Dan 6:2). This man rose steadily and became great in a strange land. Luck you may say got Daniel to this exalted position; he had something which was always setting him ahead of others and making success where others failed. Daniel had an Excellent Spirit (Daniel 5:12; 6:3).
An Excellent Spirit is a spirit to understanding difficult and/or hidden matters, which God has preserved for a chosen few to unleash. It is a spirit that reveals secrets of success; that gives knowledge and understanding of mysteries; it is a spirit of revelation. Having been endowed with this spirit, Daniel became a different man. He left the level of a slave boy and became ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in his entire realm (Dan 1:20).
The world today, like the days of Daniel, is looking for men and women with understanding of vision. Men and women that can translate the vision into strategies and converting these into goals and objectives which will in turn produce tangible outputs. These are people that can read in between the lines; that can interpret corporate vision, simplify it and produce result. These are men with the Excellent Spirit.
